In good Company
CEBU, Philippines - Impress your date with a sophisticated drink. Italian-born Marco Amarone, Director of Food and Beverage of Radisson Blu Hotel Cebu, says there’s an easy route for beginners.
1. “Fish go well with white wine. If you’re not a wine enthusiast, you can begin with Spyvalley Sauvignon Blanc because it’s sweet and fruity—very easy on the palette,†he says.
Amarone observes that Cebuanos think there’s a huge price difference between white and red wine, but in reality, they are equally rated.
“It’s simple: Red wine is made of white and red grapes while white wine is only made of white grapes. But wines have life, so they’re sealed in a special way.â€
2. “You begin with a fruity wine, and by the time you’ve truly appreciated it, you can explore on other fermentation, wines which are full-body,†he goes on.
“Full-body or dry wine has stronger appeal with different levels of tastes—and not everybody can appreciate that.â€
3. Champagnes are served during cocktails or on a casual party set-up. Others call it “sparkling†because of the tiny bubbles that resemble beads of diamonds in the drink. And as long as it’s in the glass, the bubbles remain.
4. A glass of spirit is best enjoyed after dinner. Usually, a bottle is a combination of wines which are stored for more than 10 years and has a low alcohol content, which allow you to feel the freshness of the grapes.
