CEBU, Philippines - What better way to relive our childhood fun memories than engaging in outdoor games such as Piko (sudsud), Patintero (tubig-tubig), Tumbang Preso (bato-lata), sack race, Chinese garter, Tug o’ War and Obstacle Race?
The Havaianas Playback was all that: eight teams (3 teams from three Cebu dailies and the rest are from the private sectors) battled it out in the playing field through a one-day sportsfest for a cause. It was held at the Cebu Business Park last April 12. Team Perd Glass composed of Kym Maitland-Smith, Darleen Hopkirk (the Chinese Garter queen – she led her team to victory!), Pia Congmon, Jake Maningo, Teffrey Ong, Matthew Pastrano, and Shaun Harris Yap bested other teams and took home the Havainas golden flipflop trophie, and P22,000 cash prize – half of which was donated to their chosen charity, Island Rescue Organization (IRO). “It was definitely a day of outdoor summer fun and camaraderie which brought out the inner child in everyone. A day of Havaianas Playback brings back memories of the times when all we needed an afternoon of fun with sticks, rocks, cans, chalk and a bunch of happy people,†said Leanne Florendo, managing director of A.L. Amizade Marketing Inc., exclusive sub-distributor of Havaianas in Central and Eastern Visayas. The first Havaianas Playback was held in Bonifacio High Street in Manila five years ago, then brought to Cagayan de Oro and Dumaguete, before it hit Cebu last month. – Jen F.
