He wears the pants
CEBU, Philippines - Can husband dear wear neon pants?
Cheryl Pages-Alba bought a pair for her man and counted five reasons for supporting the resurgence of the dyed trousers.
It takes a lady to know what looks good on a man; therefore, I am highly-qualified to have a say on the men’s fashion department for this summer season. “If you’re on time, you’re late†so goes the saying that trendsetters live by.
But I have yet to come across a straight man in colored pants—except for my husband who tried the rust pants I gave him, but he gently turned me down by blaming its lousy fit (yeah, right).
Summer is about bright, lively colors. True, it’s a bit more daring for a man to wear colored pants. It’s an unconventional take, compared to those over-worn blue jeans. I am dubious this fashion trend will fly away, but I am still hopeful. The problem exists because straight men think it’s “un-cool†to stand out in fashion. Either that or the slightly more obvious notion: Being a fashionable male means waving the “rainbow flag†(read: becoming gay).
I would actually wish straight men would get some serious style tips from gay men. For starters, gay men know how to experiment with clothes. They make dressing up fun—a far cry from the rudimentary of picking the shirt on top of the shelf.
Here are my top five personal ideas why straight men should wear the pants:
1. Availability. Most men’s clothing stores carry the best fit (slim-cut) colored pants. My favorite choices are rust red or orange, teal, electric blue, and light yellow.
2. Try something new. You don’t know what you like or dislike if you don’t try it.
3. Life is colorful. In this world of high color, we should take advantage of the array of hues that our eyes can feast upon.
4. Break the monotony. Be different. It’s okay to stand out in a good way.
5. Feel cool. Wearing dark colors attracts heat. Colored pants usually come in softer materials than plainjeans, so it’s a great way to stay cool during the summer heat. (FREEMAN)
