Something’s Smoking at the Manggahan
CEBU, Philippines - The Queen City of the South is home to the finest mangoes but a different kind of mango is on the rise, becoming the best hangout place for every Cebuano who wants to unwind after a hard day’s work.
Businessman Jim Anthony Uy of Opportunists, Incorporated has transformed an old house along Wilson Street, Apas, Lahug into the newly-opened Manggahan Restobar which offers a unique indoor and garden dining experience. It got its name from the huge mango tree at the heart of the garden.
“Everytime you open a business, it should be personal,†Jim told The FREEMAN when asked how he was able to come up with the restobar’s idea. He credits the concept to a relaxing hangout place dubbed as “Bayabas-san†near University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus during his college years. Manggahan Restobar takes him down memory lane when he used to catch up with friends over cold beers and barbecue.
Manggahan may be situated along other nearby food outlets but it outshines all of them due to its signature native Cebuano cuisine like pork barbecue, larang, dinuguan and humba. There are also exotic offerings of hito dishes, sizzling Crocodile sisig, and fried Bakasi, all below two hundred pesos!
Above all, Manggahan boasts of being the first restaurant in the Philippines to introduce a Yakiniku-inspired dining experience. You get to cook your food according to your taste using the installed grillers in every table along with a built-in exhaust. Manggahan makes your meals enjoyable as you chat-and-dine with family and friends while you grill your barbecue without going home and smelling of burnt meat.
Aside from the delicious yet affordable dishes Manggahan has to offer, its cozy ambiance and live acoustic music will make your stay even more relaxing. Add that up their cocktails and liquor menu that would not be a strain to one’s pockets. Cocktails are offered for as low as P48, while their Beer Below Zero is at P35 per bottle.
Getting together with family and friends should not cost much and that is what Manggahan Restobar is living up to. Open from 5:00 in the morning up to 3:00 in the morning of the next day, that is how committed Manggahan Restobar is in giving Cebuanos a unique dining experience with the grills.
