STC’s Buhilaman Theater Org

CEBU, Philippines -There are already a lot of schools here in Cebu wanting to showcase their talents in society through acting, singing or even dancing.

The concept might be about youth, nature, politics, and about people who are popular.

One of the strategies for schools to easily reach out society is through stage play.

Stage plays can be a comedy or drama. It is a form of art that gives a creative visual presentation that brings enjoyment to the audience.

Buhilaman Theater Organization (BTO) of Saint Theresa's College is one of the best theater organizations here in Cebu that presents "dula-tula" inside and outside Saint Theresa's College and has been the pride of STC for many years.

BTO has been presenting inside and outside the school plays about the different environmental issues and has been awarded for their outstanding performances.

They have been invited by different companies here in Cebu to perform, giving BTO an opportunity to go to various places.

A lot of companies like to invite BTO because of the unique and creative impact they present on stage.

The script of their plays is one of the reasons that create uniqueness in their presentation.

The dula-tula script is like a poem that rhymes at the end of the lines. The words can be in bisaya or "taglish," with a lot of lines taken from TV commercials.

Since most of the Buhilaman members are females, they want their members to act boyish and don't want them to be conscious of how they act.

Every month, they always have a workshop in order to improve their acting skills.

They invite popular theater artists to be their guests in these workshops.

Aside from acting, BTO members also dance and sing. They can dance  hiphop and some of them can dance ballet. Sometimes, they dance and sing at the same time.

Some organizations in Saint Theresa's College (STC) ask help from BTO in case they need assistance in choreography or musical plays.

Buhilaman members had been in a lot of challenges before they have reached the top.

Like other students, they also have problems on their commitment because of school requirements and activities.

They have to sacrifice a lot in order to improve Buhilaman's performance on stage.

Moreover, they still continue to make the organization progressive.

In relation to environmental matters, the organization also participates in many activities in the community.

Like participating in reading sessions for children conducting workshop for poor people in partnership with their community involvement group, and in feeding programs. (FREEMAN)
