Leading and living by example

- AJ de la Torre - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - An American author once said "Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality."

For premier real estate developer Genvi Development Corporation, part of its success is due to its leaders whose goals of being able to provide the best quality of service to members of their luxury community development have been made true and real throughout the years.

One of the brains behind the accomplishment of Genvi's Monterrazas de Cebu is Atty. Dindo Antonio Perez, their managing director.

Humble, jolly and understanding- these are just some traits Sir Dindo's colleagues used to describe him. Characters that embody a true leader whose immense passion for his job is remarkably shown in his "work hard attitude" that has been passed on to his family, colleagues and subordinates.

In an interview with the chatty Sir Dindo, he looked back to how he started in the real estate industry, being able to witness firsthand the challenges of a then not stable and urban community.

But because of his determination, he pushed himself to his limits and later on became a consultant of some of the biggest names in the real estate and other industry developments in the region.

However, as how some stories of change transpired during this year, he decided to take up law when the Edsa revolution took place. His career in the real estate world was actually doing well during that time but he shared that he was the type that was always on the quest for higher learning.

Sir Dindo was a graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. Although, he did picture himself following in the footsteps of most of the members of his family who were doctors, he decided on a different path. He candidly admitted that he wanted a course which did not require a lot of reports.

Aside from real estate, business and law-related practices, he was also exposed to media and political activities.

Sir Dindo ran for a congressional post in 1995 for the sixth congress. He failed to win but never took that too hard on himself and considered it as something he could "charge to experience." That opened doors for him to work hand-in-hand with politicians as a legal counsel.

The variety of my experience gave me the right preparation which has led me to where I am right now."

A man of principles, Sir Dindo makes sure that he inculcates the lessons, first to his children. A father of four, Sir Dindo makes sure that integrity and honesty are some of the golden rules practiced by his kids. He also shows them the true value of a family by always being with them and taking good care of them even with their hectic schedules.

With some of his kids now out of the country, he makes sure that he and his wife still gets to visit them to bond.

Not only is this practice applicable to his family but is also extended to the workplace.

Sir Dindo makes sure that the employees are happy and that they get acquainted with each other.

"They have to have something to look forward to," he said, adding that he started as an employee so he knows how they feel.

As for the success of their development, Sir Dindo said that he personally credits it to having a good staff.

But primarily, Sir Dindo shared that the success of Monterazzas is because of the location and the general plan of the development being a community with mixed residential, institutional and commercial clusters. Located in a premier residential address, Monterrazas de Cebu is the last and largest contiguous mountain property in the heart of Cebu City, stretched over a 200-hectare land. Rising majestically in Guadalupe with a commanding view of the Cebu, Mactan and Bohol,  Monterrazas de Cebu is envisioned to be the premier residential community of the Queen City. (FREEMAN)
