Discernment recollection for vocation in politics

CEBU, Philippines - The Dilaab Foundation Inc. (DFI) and the Couples for Christ (CFC) Cebu are organizing a half-day discernment recollection for vocation in politics on Sunday, September 30, 2012.

The recollection will be held from 1:00 to 6:00PM at the Sacred Heart Center, D. Jakosalem St., Cebu City. The theme of the recollection, "Whoever is Not Against Us is For Us (Mark 9:40): A Day of Reflections in Preparation for Elections 2013," seeks to provide spiritual support for individuals and groups who are running or thinking of running for an elective office in Cebu. It will end with a Sunday Mass presided by Cebu Auxiliary Bishop Joselito Cortes, D.D.

The event responds to the call of Benedict XVI for "the evangelical formation and pastoral accompaniment of a new generation of Catholics working in politics…" It builds upon the experiences of DFI during Elections 2010 when it facilitated 15 recollections to candidates in different parts of the country that received very positive feedback from participants. It is open to all regardless of political alignments.

The recollection is just the first of a series of activities where a network of concerned citizens and groups all over the province of Cebu will be available to offer pastoral accompaniment to Catholics, other Christians, and other people of good will working in politics.

The recollection is a low-key, non-partisan, non-media, invitation-only event providing spiritual space for the participants. However, a press conference is planned, a day after the event (1 October 2012) at 10AM, to update the media and the general public on the recollection. The press conference will be at the Dilaab Foundation Inc. office, St. Jerome Bible Center, Seminario Mayor de San Carlos, Mabolo, Cebu City.

The event is a spiritual space for listening; hence, it will not be a forum for debate or grandstanding. Participants (including invited leaders from other sectors) are humbly asked to come on time and stay for the entire duration of the event.

The LASER (Lifestyle, Action, Supporters, Election conduct, Reputation) Test will also be answered by the participants to help them in their discernment.
