The International e-Sports Federation National Qualifier in Cebu

- Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - As the Electronic Sports or e-Sports arena is constantly evolving, the Philippines is not without its own share of e-Sport tournaments and events, with the Philippine e-Sports Festival - International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) National Qualifier being one of the biggest and most recently staged.

Standing out as the first national qualifying tournament of its class to take place in the city, the two-day IeSF National Qualifier gathered more than 350 players hailing from different parts of the country, each intent in representing the Philippines in the upcoming eSports World Championship to take place in Korea this October 4 to 8, 2012.

Organized by the Philippine e-Sports Organization (PeSO), the IeSF National Qualifier falls in line with PeSO's goal in bringing new dimension to e-Sports in the Philippines, with PeSO ascribing the role of arbiter to the growth of e-Sports in the Philippines, along with its commitment in building up the standardization of e-Sports conventions and norms in the country.

"With e-Sports gaining traction as a global phenomenon, the Philippines actually has the potential to dominate the international electronic games and e-Sports arenas with our ranks of skilled and versatile e-Sports athletes," shares PeSO Chairman Brian Lim.

Tournament winners Alexander Lim (Tekken 6), Nikieta Cosep (Tekken 6), Cania Napoleon Acampado (Starcraft II) and Gama Rae Comaingking (Starcraft II) will be part of the team to represent the Philippines in the upcoming eSports World Championships in Korea.

Apart from its e-Sports-centered activities, the event also featured a Cosplay Competition, a Photo Competition and a [Computer] Rig Exhibit organized by Cheap Rigs (a recently founded Cebu-based computer enthusiast group), defining the event as one that is more than just about e-Sports, giving focus and emphasis to the different developments in technology, interests and trends which have grown in congruence with e-Sports' rise as an international phenomenon.

The Philippine e-Sports Festival IeSF National Qualifier took place last August 25 and 26, 2012, proudly standing as one of the most well-attended e-Sports events in Cebu. Visit www.esports.com.ph for more information and details regarding the event and PeSO.
