Style origins: Comfy and chic

- Bobit S. Avila - The Philippine Star

CEBU, Philippines - "It's great to have an inspiration you can really sink your teeth into," observed director Ariel Lozada of the new Ayala Center Cebu retail shops' casual collection and its "comfy and chic" theme. The idea played out quite literally here on tabbed stretch silk pants slashed lower than the shins with an off the shoulder top from Crissa, turquoise shirt dress with belted accent fromKashieca and an easy jersey shift dress with a graphic triangular pattern meant to conjure up asymmetric bat-wing from Loalde. Now on its 2nd annual installation, Style Origins 2012 is Ayala Malls' offering to its die hard fans. Each retail label has completed a full lap around the fashion calendar and is working non stop to establish a signature aesthetic that complements each brands' definitive approach to the casual corner.

Tunics, according to XoXo, have emerged as a new favorite medium paired with jeggings because of the proportional play. Ditto for a quarter sleeved length mustard top and short denim cut offs from Maze. The cotton/linen-blend styles with a tailored feel fit in nicely with the whole cool and comfy thing from Plains and Prints echoed by Sunny Side Up's sundress that can be paired off with a nice jacket et voila!. But some of the best pieces didn't adhere all that closely to the designated theme. A striped heavy knit sweater dress and a belted jumpsuit from Maldita for example, were effortlessly on-message yet on-trend. As with the rest of the retail collections! Bravissimo!
