Mom

CEBU, Philippines - Throughout our lives, we are influenced by our mothers whose love is one of a kind. It begins way before we are born and continues for a lifetime and beyond. The bond we have with her is our first and in many ways, the most important relationship we will ever experience with anyone. She is the foundation of life and family.

Whatever our age or place in life, through triumphs and celebrations, disappointments and even tears that are a part of growing up, her commitment and steadfast support never wavers, her hopes for us never diminishes and her love never ends.

Through our growing up years, our mothers capture all of the “firsts” in our lives - from our very first smile, first step, first tooth, to all of the major and even minor milestones we experience on our way to becoming adults. She is the keeper of our memories, of birthdays, vacations, proms, graduations and weddings.  She can make everything that we do unique and special.

Perhaps it is a fantasy of mine, but I would like to believe that our mothers who have gone before us continue to love us through the people in our lives today.  I know that having had parents who loved me unconditionally allows me to accept love in my life.

My mom Adela taught me to be grateful for life and be mindful of every moment. More importantly, she emphasized that I should try to get as much joy as I can out of small pleasures.  It’s like living with few expectations but enjoying what is happening now. Mom also taught me the importance of travel, of seeing the world, of gaining better understanding of other people, their history, and respecting their beliefs and cultures. I value the legacy she left behind and I will strive to hand it down to my only child Eduard.

On reading this piece, every mom will know that in the eyes of her child, she is loved, honored and appreciated … every day of her life. Most of all, this is a gift of love for the one woman to whom we owe everything … mom.

Mom was very appreciative of the many blessings that came our way – both material and spiritual. And she certainly constantly reminded us to gladly share them with others.

I remember her saying that blessings may always look small and insignificant whenever we hold it in our hands. But if we learn to share them, only then would we  realize how great and precious they are. With a smile she would assure us that for any little thing you would give away, countless blessings will surely come your way. Bless her.

What I learned from my mom has always been to be organized and neat. To be physically presentable especially when attending Mass. She always reminds us that we prepare days before for a party or any event so should it be even more when we go to church. Mom dislikes being late.  She has high regard for people who are on time. I have always admired her cooking skills and hope one day soon I shall be like her.

My Mom is my best friend. I wouldn't be the person that I am today without her love and guidance. I've always admired her passion for cooking and the strong woman that she is. In spite of it all she is the most loving and generous person I've ever known. I've learned the importance of family and how to be an independent woman! She will always be someone I will yearn to be one day. Happy Mother’s Day.

Cristina Sasnouvski on her mom Lisa Mill Irving In making decisions

Should a situation come up where you need to make an important decision, do not react immediately or emotionally.  Stay calm and cool.  It is in this state that you will be able to see the true reality and you will be able to make the right decision. Amazingly this does not take a long time.

One of the greatest things Mommy instilled in us is her love for her family. She puts her family above everything else. Sometimes I even think she invented the phrase "Family First".

As early as I can remember, Mommy has always embraced life with passion and a timeless drive for success, yet, when her family needs her, she would unselfishly drop everything to be by our side. Her love is so unconditional that it overwhelms me to have such a great woman as part of my life. Her love for family serves as our guiding principle and inspiration in every step we take in our lives. Happy Mother's Day, Ma!

A daughter looks at her mom as a role model. She taught me faith and trust in God, which will forever keep me strong. She helps me through all my struggles and is always there when I need her. Happy Mother’s Day, mom. (FREEMAN)
