Cambridge - ESOL is a department of the top-rated and historic University of Cambridge. CIE is an authorized Cambridge ESOL Examinations Centre in the Philippines.
Attaining one of its certificates is an achievement and a reward in itself, as they are recognized by thousands of educational organizations, employers as well as government agencies, immigration authorities and professional bodies throughout the world. These certificates are valid for life.
Cambridge’s ESOL programme offers a series of exams, including Young Learners English (YLE), Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET), and the First Certificate in English (FCE) that give students a progressive path towards globally recognized English language proficiency.
YLE is the Cambridge ESOL exam that assesses the English of children between the ages of 7 and 12. The children work through three levels: Starters, Movers, and Flyers. As they work their way up to the Flyers level, this enables them to progress and take the next level of ESOL exams, the KET and PET.
KET is the first level Cambridge ESOL exam that recognizes the ability to deal with everyday written and spoken English at a basic level.
PET is an exam for people who can use everyday written and spoken English at an intermediate level. It provides practical language practice in a variety of everyday work, study and leisure situations.
FCE is an exam for people who need to prove they can use everyday written and spoken English at an upper-intermediate level for work or study purposes.
Cambridge ESOL also offers testing in English proficiency at higher levels. These include Certificate in Advanced English (CAE), a high-level qualification in English for demanding academic and professional situations, Certificate of Proficiency in English, the most advanced exam, for learners who have achieved an extremely high level of skill in the English language.
It also conducts tests for the Business English Certificate (BEC) – Preliminary, an intermediate-level qualification that provides practical everyday skills needed to succeed in an English-speaking working environment and in international business; BEC Vantage, an upper-intermediate level qualification that enables one to use English with confidence in a business environment; and BEC Higher, a high-level exam, taken all over the world by people who need to measure a high level of English for business purposes.
These tests form a framework of levels designed to promote the development of real language skills in students such as: reading, writing, listening and speaking. As students move up each level, they receive lifetime certifications that open doors for them globally in the academic world or the workforce.
