Flicks to fill in the summer days

CEBU, Philippines - Now that summer is just right around the corner. Families are now starting to plan their getaway vacations and buy new swim and summer attires to maximize the fun under the sun. A lot of people would be spending summer out enjoying the beach, the mountain side, and even the cool air of the country side.

Although it’s fun to be out in the sun, it’s also good to be home to relax and enjoy having the family around the house and there’s no better way to spend a good family time than to watch a good movie together.

Here are some all-time-favorite movies kids will definitely enjoy .

1. Bridge to Terabithia (2007)

This movie is about Jess Aarons, played by Josh Hutcherson, and the new kid in school, Leslie Burke, played by Annasophia Robb. Although both come from completely different family backgrounds, they manage to build a strong friendship, creating their own world, Terabithia, and protecting it from its intruders. Bridge to Terabithia is the perfect movie for kids: it talks about the importance of friendship, family, and one’s imagination.

2. Flipped (2010)

Flipped is a good movie pre-teens will surely enjoy. The movie is about Juli Baker’s obsession on Bryce Loski, and what happens when the situation suddenly flips. The story begins with Juli’s early elementary days when the Loskis first moved to the neighborhood. After years of stalking Bryce, Juli decides to dump her feelings for the boy, at the same time Bryce starts to have feelings for her.

3. Monsters Incorporated (2001)

An Oscar winner and an all-time favorite family movie, Monsters Incorporated is a company that provides the city’s power by scaring children in their sleep with the help of portal doors that can take the monsters anywhere around the world.  The movie centers around Sully, the company’s top scarer, and what happens when a child accidentally enters the moster’s world.

4. City of Ember (2008)

City of ember takes us to the future after the earth has already reached its end. To save the future of the human race, the leaders of the world make an underground city that is powered by one main generator that only lasts for 200 years. But now that the time is up, two kids, Lina Mayfleet and Doon Harrow, search for the key out of Ember, by decoding the message left by the builders that will leave them safely to the outside world.
