Wishes for 2012
Camille V. Aldeguer

For the country: Definitely good weather. With little or no calamity. Good weather promotes travel and therefore, a happy and robust tourism economy.
For my children and family: Good health and more time. Resolving to make some healthy changes. Provide better food choices for the family. Encourage exercise. And more sleep. More importantly though, is the simple wish for more time spent with family and good friends.
For myself: Really, just a general sense of peace. And to become a better person than I was the year before.

For 2012, I wish to have a cleaner and greener Cebu by educating the local communities of good practices in environmental preservation. To further our global competiveness, I wish to have well maintained road systems with better traffic management and good modes of transportation. With these, the tourism and hotel industry will be uplifted to WOW Philippines!

2011 has been pretty generous to us…thank you, Lord! While we wish for more blessings to come our way, we selflessly wish more ardently that 2012 could be the year for every person to be accorded equal chance for self-worthiness; for food to be put on tables and shelters be built for families. We further wish that the more advantaged get over themselves altogether and realize that all are worthy of that same privilege; sacrifice more for the benefit of others who deserve that equal chance. In other words, we wish for this year to be a year for others and not for ourselves. That way, we can progress as a family, as a nation and as a world.

Three wishes I hope for this year.
Good health. It’s hard to say what our future brings and a good way to start is by asking that we live a fortunate life by being well all
year round.
Peace. I always pray that we live in harmony, that the good vibes always outweigh the bad.
Strength. Outer strength so that we can accomplish everything we need to do physically for ourselves, our family and for others. Inner strength to withold all the pressures life challenges us with.

For 2012, my wishes are simply put: that I may become a better “I”… that I may aspire for more but never forget to do a good deed; that I may prune the superficial and keep close to my heart those that are special; that I may love all I can but also love myself for who I truly am. And most of all, that I may revel on simple joys that truly matter – family, friends and a career that allows me to grow and become a better person.

My wish for 2012 is for the government, private sector and the community to work together towards establishing tourism as the engine for the country’s socio-economic growth and progress. Infrastructure development, cultivation of human resource, security and protection for the environment must be addressed as the key pillars in promoting the Philippines’ trademark cultural and heritage sites, colorful festivities, unique culinary flavors, nature and theme parks and pristine white beaches.
On another note, last year was punctuated with unprecedented natural disasters. With the hope of a better year ahead, world leaders and every human being should be truly aware and mindful of the environmental impact of every action and decision and commit to taking crucial steps in sustainable development and curbing the effects of climate change and global warming. As Pope Benedict XVI stated “If humanity truly desires peace… we need to care for the environment.”

I am trusting God and believing that 2012 will be an awesome year - that I will grow in my relationship with the Lord and my family, good health and an outpouring of blessings. It is also my wish that this year will bring restoration to the Philippines, to our people and our land. After having witnessed and experienced first-hand the calamity brought by typhoon Sendong, it has softened my heart and made me count my blessings no matter how big or small. It is my wish that people will do the same. Let’s not wait for another “Sendong” or tragedy before we learn to value what we have and unite with the people around us. I am excited for what God is going to do and believing that the best is yet to come!

My wish for my family this year is the same as last year. That they will all be granted good health, especially my parents and the love of my life, my baby boy, Simon Eli. And my wish for this year is that I will finally learn how to be patient.
