Diaper Quality

MOMMY ON BOARD - Kristalle Marie Garcia-Kekert -

There are so many disposable baby diaper brands advertised and sold commercially in the Philippine market. But what sort of quality do they offer you and your baby? Using my son as a test subject (thankfully he never developed a rash) proved very effective. He tried out a dozen brands in total and only nine out of those tested gave us good results.

In many households, we are all accustomed to the Pampers brand, which also happens to be my son’s first ever diaper used. With its cotton soft and excellent quality, this absorbent pad stays true to its name.

Helping to keep dry for long, the Drypers or Mamy Poko brands work fantastically. They stay absorbent for a long time, although I reckon that they cost quite a bit in comparison to many other competitive brands you will find around. S&R or Baby Company sometimes do good diaper deals for these so look out for that. Trapping the wetness, the Huggies, Prokids, Smile and Jolli Baby, which come in four different sizes to choose from, are other decently priced ones that don’t unnecessarily seep out on different ends of the diaper.

When on a budget, diapers that help stop leakage but keeping the pad in place is the SM Bonus Dry brand, which is layered in a soft cotton cover making it comfortable and breathable for your baby. Light on your pocket, I can also recommend the Happy brand, which is a very simple diaper made of plastic in the outer section and with thin cotton on the inside. You will however need changing a little more often once soiled, but it is still good value for money. These inexpensive brands prove that expensive and popular ones do not always mean best.

The diaper brands that I didn’t mention above are ones that I am not likely to purchase again! To be completely honest, there were some that I couldn’t wait to finish so I could move on with the next. These unlikely brands created such a wet and messy atmosphere for my baby up to the point when it already seemed absolutely ridiculous and inconvenient having to constantly change pads!

Since parents depend highly on disposable diapers for our babies, at the end of the day, it was important for me to see how cost effective each diaper is.

(Friendly note: Dispose of diapers properly)
