RC planes to celebrate first year in public service

- Ritche T. Salgado -

CEBU, Philippines - To show his gratefulness for the support he garnered in his first year as the town’s chief executive, neophyte Siaton Mayor Albert Ator invited members of Dumaguete Aeromodelers to play with their expensive toys to the amazement of the locals.

More than 20 radio-controlled aircrafts flew in the skies of Siation doing their loops, hoops, glides, rolls, and smooth landing. Some of the planes chased after spectators, others blew smoke and spewed skydivers, while still others carried banners that announced the exciting event.

Present in the event are famous leaders in the province headed by first district representative, Josy Limkaichong. Provincial board members Jessica Jane Villanueva Koppin and Dr. Liland Estacion were also there, as well as Zamboanguita Mayor Kit Mark Adanza, Bais City Mayor Karen Villanueva, Bacong Mayor Lenin Alviola, and former provincial board member Marcelo Adanza.

Blair Saceda of Dumaguete Aeromodelers said that the group was formed in 2003 and since then has gone around the province to showcase their planes and skills in maneuvering them.

Ator said that while during his first year as Mayor he was only able to fly model planes in the skies of Siaton, he hopes to be able to leave as one of his legacies in the town, an airport that would allow for real planes to adorn the town’s skies. He said that preparatory talks have already been made with national agencies concerned in the establishment of such a facility. (FREEMAN)
