Australia in Cebu
CEBU, Philippines - “We recognize that Cebu, and this region, is one of the critical engines of economic growth in the Philippines. We see it as an area of tremendous potential and we want to help you be part of that potential,” enthused Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Rod Smith during the business reception and networking cocktails as part of the Australian Trade Commission’s promotional events in Cebu.
Australia and the Philippines have long been trade partners. The event was organized to encourage and attract more Cebuano traders to consider forging deals and partnerships with the Land Down Under. The launch of the Australia Unlimited national brand that same night is also a way to reintroduce Australia not just as a world class destination but also as a potential market most especially for Cebuano exporters.
Guests coming from the different sectors of society (academe, business and tourism) had a taste of Australia from wines and cheeses to meats and fashion via a fashion show of Australia’s renowned brands. Wines served for sampling were: St. Hallet “Poachers Blend” Semillon Sauv Blanc 08, Tatachilla Growers Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 08, D’Arenberg “The Stamp Jump” Riesling 09 and Grant Burge “Benchmark” Cabernet Sauvignon from Wine Depot, and Rookslane Shiraz and Meerea Park:Verdhelo, Voigner, Hunter & “The Ants” from Darras+Bowler. Australian cheeses were also sampled: TH Red Square, Jindi Old Tele Jumbunna Blue from Silverware Corporation (Tasmanian Heritage & King Island Dairy). Of course, the sole star of the carving station was the succulent Australian beef!
“Most importantly this is about developing relationship between Australia and the Philippines, particularly here in Cebu,” said Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner Ross Bray.
The event held at the Radisson Blu Hotel was in partnership with Australian-New Zealand Chamber of Commerce (ANZCHAM), as well as Blue Cross and AGS Four Winds. (FREEMAN)
