Sabores De España

INTO THE SCENE - Han Kintanar -

For the fourth time now, the “Sabores de España” took centerstage at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel as part of the hotel’s F&B promotion, “Culinary Journey”. The Philippines being a former colony of Spain, gives no doubt of the fact of every Filipinos’ fondness of Spanish food. Thus, “Sabores de España” is considered to be one of the most popular F&B promotions of Marco Polo.

The gastronomic feast had its formal launch last July 8 with no less than His Excellency Jorge Domecq, Ambassador of Spain to the Philippines as guest of honor together with the Honorary Consul of Spain Jaime Picornell. The food promo went on ‘til last July 17. Of course, quite a number of the Filipino-Spanish community of Cebu showed their support and were accounted for that evening.

The Spanish food festival, again featured Spain’s distinctive cuisine through the help of Ms. Gemma Luisa Pido, Cebu’s foremost expert on Spanish culinary tradition with the support of the hotel’s creative chefs . The event started with cocktails at the Lobby Lounge before the welcome remarks of Julie Najar, Marco Polo’s amiable Resident Manager and the brief message of His Excellency Jorge Domecq. Thereafter, the unveiling and ceremonial cutting of the Jamon Serrano took place with Julie Najar, H.E. Jorge Domecq, Marco Polo Plaza’s Executive Chef Luke Gagnon and Gemma Pido. While the guests were ushered in to the El Viento Restaurant and Pool Bar, Cebu’s pride the Sandiego Dance Company presented some Spanish dances, donning colorful costumes. For a more exciting fiesta atmosphere, attractive raffle prizes were raffled-off to the diners of Sabores de España. Fuego Hotel & Properties Management Corporation gave gift certificates for two-night stays for two persons in Pearl Farm Beach Resort in Samal Island and 7Stones Boracay Suites, with roundtrip airport transfers!

To name some of the favorite Spanish dishes the guests enjoyed that night were the lengua estofada, croquettas, gambas al ajillo, paella valenciana, and a lot more. Marco Polo Plaza’s Director for Sales and Marketing Lara Constantino-Scarrow, Corporate Communications Head Aileen Brunio, PR Officer Belle Lumapas and Gemma Pido, hopped from one table to another and asked the guests how the food was. Of course, everyone was unanimous in saying “muy bien”!

‘Til the 5th Sabores de España. Cheers!
