Anton & Lili Mark 40!

CEBU, Philippines -  Anton and Lili Florendo, long time residents of Cebu, recently celebrated their 40thwedding anniversary at the exclusive Maria Luisa Clubhouse.

The guests, graciously adhering to the dress code, came in red, the traditional color of love and believed to represent the passion is being alive and strong.

The evening started with the couple renewing their marriage vows in a solemn service performed by Pastor Macky Sabayle.

Following the touching ceremony, everyone seated themselves at tables which  were adorned with  beautiful centerpieces of  calla lilies, mums  and white roses interspersed with lush greens.

A long buffet table  prepared by Café Laguna was set up and guests had their fill of tasty hors d’oeuvres, pasta, roasted beef, flavorful desserts and so much more.

Later in the evening, a sentimental slide presentation prepared by the couple’s youngest son, Lorenz, brought everyone back in time to when Anton first set eyes  on his future bride, Lili Maglana  in Silliman University in Dumaguete, their memorable marriage at the National City Church in Quezon City, to their many memorable and fun-filled trips here and abroad.

Anton gave a heartwarming speech and Lili also said a few words of thanks. Their eldest son Toby led the congratulatory  toast as his wife Yvonne, and the rest of the siblings Leanne, Maita Alcantara  and Lorenz looked on with pride, admiration and joy.

Making the evening one to remember was the  couple’s endearing grandchildren, Niki Florendo  who   played the guitar  and  Laela Garcia, all of six years old, who sang.

For  entertainment,  the Femme Aura Band  provided music of the 6os to the present. Guests hit the dance floor right after the celebrants led the way with a graceful foxtrot.

Attending this event were the couple’s many friends from the different sectors of society. Anton who was once District Governor of Rotary had his fellow Rotarians in full force. An avid sportsman, his golf buddies were also there. They included Country Club President Montito Garcia and his lovely wife Liz,  radiologist Edwin Medalle, Benjie & Maria Corazon Akol,  Bruce & Rosalyn Chiongbian, and bubbly Vicky Moraza.

Lili, who is always supportive of her husband, a  loving mom and a loyal friend to many was all smiles as she and Anton circulated among guests, some of whom came from far away.

In lieu of gifts, guests were asked to give a donation to the Rotary Club Cebu Port Center for Rotaplast Medical Mission 2011.

To Anton and Lili, may the cherished  treasures of the past and the joys of the present become wonderful memories of tomorrow. (FREEMAN)
