Happy Birthday, Cebu Trivia Night!

CEBU, Philippines - After learning that a portion of the population in Cebu, whether they are in the center of the city (Alejandros) or they are far north (Joker’s), have decided to devote almost four hours of their time to a grueling game of question and answer, we decided that our week nights have never been the same since. And we can’t believe it’s been a year already since Cebu Trivia Night started!

“Last month’s anniversary was simply amazing,” Leica Cruz, quizmaster of Cebu Trivia Night, said. “We had a month-long celebration and we felt the support of the geeks building up every week up to the culminating night, which was the Cebu vs. Manila trivia night at Anzani. It paved way to build new ties with the geeks in Manila and now Cebu is being invited for a Cebu All stars vs. Manila All stars trivia night.”

Cebu Trivia Night entertained their regulars so much that geeks are sent cramming! “We’ll be surprising players with new/special rules once in a while so as not to make every night the same as the other nights,” claimed Jewel, one of the quizmasters. “Sometimes my emotions affect the questions I ask. If I’m feeling a bit under the weather then expect the questions to be a tad difficult than the usual.”

“It makes me feel dumb whenever I read particularly difficult questions because when I am sure nobody will get it, all the teams get the correct answer,” Alexis Yap, Cebu Trivia Night’s hosts of all hosts, admitted. “But seriously, the energy of the people astounds me. I look forward to every Trivia Night because I know I will have a great time.”

Anton Ngo-Tautjo, a member of Team Fatness First, said even if he plays solo, he loves it when he is the only one who gets it right. “It just feels so good!” Anton said.

Even if Cebu Trivia Night has expanded to different venues with different markets, the crowd is the same – boisterously fun and very much inspired! “My favorite categories are pop culture, history, movies, TV and anything related to the 90s!” said Albert from Team 20somethings/Grp 12.

And the prizes are really something that participants look forward to getting. “Since the beach is obviously my regular refuge from city life, it’s gotta be the Hoyohoy Villas GC!” said Audie Villa from The Team Formerly Known as the Lady Gagas. “Joining trivia that night at the Jokers was like hitting 3 birds with a stone: we had fun, we won, and best of all, we get to go to Bantayan for free!”

“We are thankful for the followers/ geeks for making us a part of their weekdays,” Leica said. “Everyone has become our friends already. Three nights of Trivia is not a joke. There are teams who come to ALL venues (definitely no repetition of categories).”
