A busy February for the world of dance
MANILA, Philippines – February was a busy month for the world of dance.
Asian College of Technology celebrated their Intramurals on the second week of the month wherein, four teams competed for the over-all championship title - the CS Explorers (Computer Science students), Wizards (Information System and Engineering), Synergists( BSHM and Nursing Students) and IT Masters (Information Technology). The latter emerged as the top victor.
A cheer dance competition was the culminating highlight of the week-long event. The Synergists (2nd placers) presented a Chinese-inspired dance routine but this paled in comparison to the synchronized performance of the CS Explorers, who donned gold metallic cat suits with neon green accents.
Meanwhile, the Graduate School of Southwestern University staged its fourth Obra Kultura Cultural Show at the Aznar Coliseum last February 19. Spearheaded by Dean Rouel Longinos, Obra became an overnight sensation since its launching in 2008. This event created a venue for Masters and Doctorate candidates and graduates to showcase their dance researches while raising funds for charitable institutions such as the Boys Town of Don Bosco, Lilo-an, as well as creating more awareness and providing educational information on Filipino culture for the youth.
Obra Kultura showcased dances from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and these were performed by students from the Southwestern University, Cebu Technological University PE Department, University of San Jose Recoletos and South Cotabato. The SWU Chorale also performed during the event.
Furthermore, the University of Cebu College of Education Biokinetics Dance Club will present “Journey @ 8” on March 13, 3pm at the SM Event Center, to mark its 8th year of training MAPE educators,
Directed by Ceasar Amirhassan F. Nimor, Journey @ 8 will showcase a tapestry of Filipino dances, as well as dances from the Asia-Pacific region and multi-cultural dances from all over the globe. (FREEMAN)
