Sinulog happenings @ the Marco Polo plaza

INTO THE SCENE - Han Kintanar -

One great thing about being Cebuano is that we never stop partying even after the holiday season hangover. Everybody’s excited in anticipation of the grandest and most colorful festival in the country in honor of our beloved Señor Santo Niño, the Sinulog. Parties, concerts, exhibits here and there keep the Cebuano adrenaline at its highest level.

Over at the Marco Polo Plaza, a series of events and special offerings in line for Sinulog await every foreign and local tourist and the Cebuanos, as well. Starting last January 7 ‘til the 18th, a week long exhibit of the “Santo Niño: Images of Jesus as a Child” takes center stage at the hotel lobby. The exhibit features the rare antique collection of the Companeros de Juego del Santo Niño. At Café Marco, the traditional SUGBUSOG with this year’s theme “A Culinary Journey to Our Roots,” catches everyone’s palate through a delectable selection of Cebuano heritage cuisine, featuring the culinary favorites of the towns of Bantayan and Aloguinsan, which includes Bantayan’s danggit, pusit (squid) and other seafood “yummies” and Aloguinsan’s Pan Bisaya and Salvaro to name a few. Plus some well-loved family recipes such as balbacua (ox tail), humba, adobong baboy and manok, dugo-dugo, tinola, etc… by guest chef and culinary guru Jessica Avila. Whew! Such a gastronomic feast!

Above all these, a special Sinulog weekend package is also being offered, which starts at P4,818+ per night with buffet breakfast. For a more festive feel, the hotel will also feature Sinulog dancers, free souvenirs and face painting at the lobby on Sinulog day, January 16, Sunday. Another special Sinulog package which includes packed meals, complimentary shuttle service to where the action is with a priority seat at the Marco Polo grandstand along Mango Avenue is also available. For more details, one may call 253-1111 local 8249.
