The real meaning of Christmas

CEBU, Philippines - Merry Christmas, kids! The day we have all been waiting for, Christmas day, is finally just a sleep away. Are you excited about the gifts you will be receiving tomorrow?

The Christmas season is a very joyous celebration. As early as September, many families start decorating their houses and put up their Christmas trees. Children are reminded to be good because Santa Claus is watching over and taking note of kids that are naughty or nice. Kids like you are excited about Christmas because you receive a lot of gifts, attend different parties, and get to eat a lot, too! But amidst all the gift giving, the parties and all the food you can eat, do you kids know what we are truly celebrating during the Christmas season?

Christmas is a very important time for us because during this day, we celebrate the greatest gift that God our Father gave us, His Son, Jesus. This Gift from God is written in the Bible. Ask your mom and dad or even your kuya or ate to help you check John 3:16 in the Bible and there you will find this passage, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that whoever believes in Him will not die but will have eternal life.” God gave us Jesus to save us from sin.

Every Christmas, we celebrate the birth of Jesus just like we celebrate our birthdays every year. We give gifts to our friends, our parents and our brothers and sisters to remember the greatest gift that all of us received when Jesus was born.

So kids, make Christmas more meaningful this year by remembering its true meaning – the birth of Jesus our Savior. I know you get really excited about the gifts you will receive and the parties you will be attending. But you can make Christmas even more meaningful if you take some time to thank God for giving us Jesus. You can do this by praying and sharing your blessings to others. Did you know that not all kids get gifts during Christmas? You can share the gift of Christmas to other children so they, too, will know the real meaning of the celebration.
