Pixie-lated
CEBU, Philippines - It’s going to make a comeback and you have Emma Watson to thank for it. I’ve never been particularly a fan of the pixie cut because the last time I tried sporting it many of my mom’s friends called me “dong”, but like it or not, the pixie cut is going to make a comeback this 2011 but this time heavily inspired from the 60s-70s pixie cuts.
This coming 2011, we’ll be witnessing the pixie cut evolution—no longer the extremely short, extremely boyish cut but this time with a femme flair through a longer fringe and something that’s more versatile to styling.
We heavily draw inspiration for the 2011 pixie from 60s star, Mia Farrow, and of course from Potter star Emma Watson. We’re talking about shorter sides, a slightly longer top and fringe, with both top and fringe blending seamlessly and perfectly making this the ideal for those who want to free themselves from longer tresses without having to throw away much femininity.
This is the cut that’s those with standout straight hair can easily cap and those with curly and wavy hair might find a little bit more of a challenge to pull off. Challenging, but definitely not impossible to rock.
Draw inspiration for the long-fringed pixie from actress Carey Mulligan. This is the grown-out version of the 2007 pixie: brow length, side-swept fringe held in place by a trusty pomade or wax. This is the perfect cut for those who are still a bit too scared to go shorter and for those with hair that lies just a little in between straight and wavy.
With a little help from gel, wax, or pomade, you can be a little bit experimental and veer away from simply having to style your pixie cut with the fringes swept to the sides. Towards 2011, we’ll notice the pixie cut evolve some more, gearing towards the 1970s revival that it’s been inspired from at the onset. You’ll be noticing the cut adapt more and more of the traits from dekada setenta that is, a more even cut all over with longer sides.
Eventually, according to Fashionising.com, the pixie cut will slowly turn into the pageboy cut which was the initial inspiration back in 2007. (FREEMAN)
