Dance and music through space and time
Every October, the MAPEH 5 (Philippine Folk Dances and Other Dance Forms) with the Biokinetics Dance Club of the University of Cebu College of Education holds its culminating program featuring various dance forms learned for the entire semester.
The successful show entitled Journey - Dance and Music through Space and Time, was themed in celebration of the United Nations Month by the students of dance maestro and choreographer extraordinaire Ceasar Amirhassan Nimor.
It was the first time that several groups were combined for this cultural journey in the media of dance, tableaux, music and sports. Coincidentally, this was also the first time that the show was held in the afternoon at the SM City Event Centre last October 17 to a full-force audience.
Dances by the Biokinetics Dance Club with the MAPEH 5 and MAPEH 17 (Special Education for MAPEH)were showcased. This also included music interludes by the ukulele and rondalla ensembles of the Biokinetics Music Club under the tutelage of music maestro Isagani Butcon. Violin renditions by Orlando Limotin and Sweet Caroline Tabucal of the UC Symphony Orchestra provided soul to the journey. The event also showcased unquestionable talents of impersonator Johnny Traya – 2010 grand champion of the UC Educators Got Talent Search and singer – Sarah Lumahang. Adding spice were the Arnis and Kata demo by the Biokinetics Sports Club under trainer-adviser Dennis Olofernes. The Special Topic 1 Classes (Multicultural Classrooms) of Mr. Nimor provided a surreal tableau.
The segments dramatically moved from the regional panorama through Filipino folk dances that segued to the colorful and mystic dances of Asia then bullet-speeding to the merry-mix-up of dance sports, street beat-hip hop, pop, Seychellois, roaring 20s and music interludes.
Professor Nimor artistically directed Journey with full support from the University of Cebu Academic organization - Dr. Erlinda Barcelo, former Vice Chancellor of Academics, Dr. Ulysses B. Aparece, OIC Vice Chancellor for Academics, Mr. Delfin “Kadel” Cabanero, OIC Dean – College of Education.
Journey’s production staff included James Roy Gillera, President – MAPEH Biokinetics, Renalyn Patatag, V.P. for Dance, Dhan Johnson Arnaiz, V.P. for Sports, Stephanie Nudalo, V.P. for Music, Jomar Baring, Dance Master (Dancesport), Rael Uy/ Danbert Banzon, Props and Costumes, Benjie Cosep, Business Manager, SPT Coordinators Jeziel Obeda, Christian Amadora, Arman Eugene Flores, Lovely Andio Awe, Ala Cemres Abarque and Elmer Lim.
