St. Benedict Children's Choir
The St. Benedict Children’s Choir is composed of boys and girls aged 8 to 12 years old. The group started in 2008 with Dennis Gregory Sugarol as their choir master.
The choir has made several public performances beginning December 2008 where they sang Christmas carols in “Christmas Shines at the Shrine: A Festival of Children’s Choirs.”
In March 2009, they sang Broadway classics and show-stopping tunes at the St. Theresa’s College Auditorium. Last March 2010, the choir gave their first solo concert wherein they performed religious songs and children’s melodies. Last July 2, 2010, they held a send off concert for the 6th World Choir Games entitled “On the Wings of a Dream Part II” at St. Theresa’s College Auditorium, eager to leave a mark of hope and optimism to the audience.
The 6th World Choir Games 2010 held last July 15-20, 2010 in Shaoxing, China was their initial foray into the world of competitive choir singing. The choir brought home with them one silver diploma in the Young Children’s Category and one gold diploma in the Musica Contemporanea Category for the Open Competition, and one silver medal in Music of the Religions Category for the Champions Competition. They were the youngest choir representing the Philippines. The choir was given the Governor’s Citation at the Governor’s Ball and Garbo sa Sugbo Awards, held at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall last August 7.
