Spring Fever!

- Stacy Danika S. Alcantara -

CEBU, Philippines - Yes, I know, I’m just way too excited for the Spring trends of 2011 that I can’t help but jump the gun. Don’t get me wrong. I love the Fall and Winter looks as well, what with all the sultry sparkle and the mystery but being the sunny person that I am, I cannot help but be drawn to the fresh spring looks that have captured my heart straight from the runways of Monique Lhuillier and the House of Holland.

So, instead of putting the focus on the clothes, we shift our attention to another more important aspect of fashion: the make-up.

Here’s how to cap the first quarter of 2011’s look straight from the runway and right to your face: Marvellous Monique Monique Lhullier’s spring runway show showcased the best of the 50s/60s trend that’s hot material starting this season. This trend is expected to make a mad break by Spring season of next year. Perfecting the lady-like looks like hemlines grazing right at the calves making it sexy-demure, is the soft and sultry makeup set in Spring’s sultry overtones.

Val Garland of the MAC team described the look in Fashionising.com as a 1950s Audry Hepburn look coupled with an aerodynamic beautiful eyeliner that’s very haute couture, very red carpet, and yet with the innocence of a debutante thanks to its gilded lilacs on the lids, liner, and delicate, soft, kissable hint of pink gloss at the puckers.

To achieve the Monique Lhullier runway look, the MAC Team put together some easy steps that can be done in a jiff. But take note that although these looks are best done with MAC, you can still cap this look with the tools you have on hand.

1. For the face, apply MAC Face and Body foundation as a base.

2. Blend Bamboo Cream Colour Base onto the cheeks and highlight the cheekbones with Shell Cream Colour Base.

3.Layer MAC Digit and Vellum Eye Shadows onto the eyelids. To make the color of your eye shadow come out even more, you can opt to put on some eye lid primer first before layering on the eye shadows. I highly recommend Smashbox’s eye lid primer to give your eye shadow a boost of life.

4. Apply Crystal Eye Shadow through the crease of the eyelids, with a layer of Idol Eyes Eye Shadow applied wet on top.

5. Dot some Woodwinked Eye Shadow on the inner corners of the eyelids.

6. Apply a line of MAC Blacktrack Fluidine to the eyes in the winged out shape. You may also try using liquid eyeliner from other brands like Smashbox, Maybelline, and Revlon.

7.If you’re not gifted in the eyelash department, cut a pair of MAC 41 lashes in half and apply them to the outer corners of each eye. Otherwise, curl your lashes in sections from the bottom-most, to the middle, to the tip for a clean curl and not a crease, and apply lengthening mascara which you can get from Maybelline.
