A yearly event at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel is the Sabores de España, wherein the hotel features the best in Spanish cuisine. Ms. Gema Pido, foremost authority on Spanish culinary tradition, is always the consultant during the event.
The honored guest was H.E. Ambassador of Spain Luis Arias Romero, who came with his lovely wife, Doña Soledad Romero.
Pianist Maestro Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz, accompanied by guitarist Ruben Reyes, had a special performance at the hotel lobby before the ceremonial cutting of the Serrano Ham at Café Marco.
Spanish Ambassador Luis Arias Romero with Honorary Consul Jaime Picornell, Ms. Gema Pido and GM Hans Hauri cut the ham, after which guests were invited to go to El Viento Restaurant & Pool Bar.
Prior to the dinner, Ambassador Romero unveiled the piping hot Paella – the authentic one! Yes, the paella was so good everyone asked for second and third helpings!
Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo Exhibit
An exhibit on the “Life and Works of Venerable Ignacia del Espiritu Santo” will be held on September 10 to 30 at the Cathedral Museum of Cebu. The exhibit focuses on her presence in the Province of Cebu. The purpose of the exhibit is to celebrate her 262nd death anniversary and to celebrate her legacy of service to our Lord through the ministry of the RVM Sisters who have served the Archdiocese of Cebu in the last 90 years.
The ministry of the RVM Sisters started in Cebu when they were invited by Msgr. Jose Ma. Cuenco in 1920 to manage the Sto. Rosario Dormitory at corner Osmeña Blvd. and P. del Rosario Sts., near the Sto. Rosario Church (now Landbank). From then on, apostolates/ministries have been going on in Cebu: four schools – SMA-San Nicolas, SMA Dalaguete, SMA Tuburan, SMA Oslob, three dormitories located in P. del Rosario, Ramos St. and Urgello St; one retreat house in Betania Hills and others. The Sisters also helped manage several schools and assisted in other works as assigned by the Cardinal.
