Be Resorts forays into voluntourism

CEBU, Philippines - In celebration of Be Resorts Mactan’s second anniversary, and with International Coastal Cleanup day coming up this September 16, Be Resorts Mactan is marking the month of September with its first foray into voluntourism, where guests travel and volunteer at the same time over the weekend.

Voluntourism is quickly gaining ground in other countries, and is the perfect way for friends and family to bond while enjoying a weekend vacation at special rates. The first voluntourism weekend will happen on September 10-12, (Friday – Sunday) and is available in live-out, overnight, and 3D/2N packages. It will commence in partnership with OceanCare Advocates Inc., which focuses on protecting and rehabilitating the marine environment of Mactan Island and its interdependent island ecosystems.

Dubbed “Be the Spark: Vacations with Heart”, guests availing of this package can enjoy an island-hopping adventure to Olango with feel-good, eco-friendly activities like mangrove planting and cleanup dives (for divers), capped off with a trip to the Olango Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary. Families with young kids can also gain an appreciation for marine life with an intro session to snorkeling and a touch pool of common sea creatures.

In the future, other Be the Spark voluntourism packages will be crafted for various advocacies, in partnership with other nonprofit organizations to help spread the word about their causes. Custom voluntourism packages can also be created for schools and other groups. Voluntourism is also the perfect way for companies to combine teambuilding and corporate social responsibility.
