There are all sorts of celebrations. From the beginning of the year to the end of the year, we seem to be always celebrating.
In fact, we probably are one of the countries in the world with the most holidays so that we could celebrate these special days.
* * *
To name a few: we celebrate New Year’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Grandparents’ Day, National Heroes’ Day, Ramadan, and Christmas.
And then you also have your personal celebrations—birthday of each and everyone in the family, your parents’ anniversary, and many more big occasions when we throw a party.

Aside from these big celebrations, we also have soooo many smaller things in life that we celebrate repeatedly and regularly. In today’s Big Little People, I will list some of them—as told to me by some of my little friends.
1. Homework done—“Yey, now I am free to watch TV!” (Or whatever you like doing when you are allowed to do it.
2. Friday—“Yes! Tomorrow I don’t need to wake up early.”
3. Recess—“Break time at last!”
4. Narrating—“Guess what happened to me for the first time today!” Telling a classmate the story of your new experience is as delightful as the experience in itself.
5. Wearing a new something—“My grandma bought this new dress (or shoes) for me. I love it!” “My Tita sent this to me from the US.”
6. Good grades—“Look at my grading card, mom!”
7. Fever’s gone—“I feel a whole lot better. I don’t feel hot anymore.” When you’ve been in bed for a day or two, you feel great when you start getting well.
8. Outing—“I have packed my swim suit. I can’t wait to swim!” When every member of the family is free, or when there is a clan reunion, a picnic or a ride out of town usually happens.
9. Hug—“I love you dad; I love you mom.” Being in your parents’ arms make you feel safe and loved.
10. Savings—“Wow, I have saved enough money to buy what I’ve been wishing for!”

This list is incomplete. I know you can add many more.
You need not to eat out or throw a party to celebrate. Just stay where you are feeling good, excited, and happy. While celebrating quietly, it is always a good idea to say a prayer, thanking God for this memorable moment—no matter how short, or how small you think it is.

My grandma used to say, “God celebrates with us every day.”
She’d add, “Just look at what He gives us without our asking for it: flowers in bloom, trees swaying with the wind, birds singing in the sky, butterflies flying from bud to bud, clouds parting to show the sun, rains falling to cool the heat, and many more.”
When we celebrate a little something, then, it is always a good idea to give thanks to the One who created celebrations.
Because if you really think hard about it, celebrations are truly times for thanksgiving.
