Cebu Bonsai And Suiseki Society Joint Induction Rites

The Cebu Bonsai Society and Cebu Suiseki Society will have a joint induction of officers on July 19 at 3pm at the Molave Room of the Cebu Country Club. Dr. Thelma Fernandez, Dean of the Cebu Institute of Medicine, is the inducting officer and keynote speaker.

Ms. Linda To, outgoing president, will give her valedictory address during the event. The new officers of the Cebu Bonsai Society are Norma Sanchez, president; Dr. Librado Macaraya, vice president; Joselito Alansalon, secretary; Ma. Theresa Zosa, treasurer; Imelda Acebedo, assistant treasurer; Leodice Tagorda, auditor; Angelina Escaño, press relations officer. The organization’s board of directors are Erlinda C. To (ex-officio), Jesus Cuenco, Fe Mendoza, Leonidas Sanchez and Earl Sevilla. Meanwhile, the Cebu Suiseki Society officers are Dr. Librando Macaraya, president; Leonidas Sanchez, vice president; Joselito Alansalon, secretary; Ma. Theresa Zosa, treasurer; Imelda Acebedo, assistant treasurer; Leodica Tagorda, auditor; Angelina Escaño, press relations officer. The board of directors are Erlinda To, Jesus Cuenco, Fe Mendoza, Norma Sanchez and Earl Sevilla.

The Dolores Aboitiz Foundation recently turned over to the Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House Inc. the Dolores Aboitiz OB Ward A and OB Ward B. Cristina Aboitiz, who gave a very inspiring message, signed the Deed of Donation along with Florencia Streegan, CPCMHI president and Dr. Raida G. Varona, CPCMHI medical director. The Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House, Inc is a non-stock, non-profit and non-government institution. It is a maternal and child welfare institution that operates to serve the reproductive health needs of the middle and low income sector of the women of Cebu and neighboring province.

The maternity hospital was founded by the Cebu Women’s Club in 1922. It was then a 10-bed capacity lying-in nipa house at the side of the old Fort San Pedro. After 10 years, a one-story building was built and in 1956 through the help of the late first lady Mrs. Leonila Garcia, a two-story building was constructed. The CPCMHI officers are Florencia Streegan, president; Dr. Rebecca Gucor, vice president; Dr. Iris Jakosalem, secretary; Joan Castillo, treasurer; Dr. Milagros Chan, assistant treasurer; Dr. Ellen Chavez, auditor; Minnie Yuvienco and Dr. Ma. Cristina Senerpida, P.R.Os. The board of directors are Dr. Suga Sotto Yuvienco, Lucille Colina, Nilda Martinez, Caridad Fernandez, Mercedes Albaño, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Chan and Leticia Canoy. The Cebu Woman’s Club Inc officers are Leticia Canoy, president; Dr. Helen Albaño, vice president; Teresita Manguerra, secretary; Marilu Bascon, treasurer. The board of directors are Judge Sylva Paderanga, Dr. Victoria Laspiñas, Dr. Suga Sotto Yuvienco, Celina Moras, Mercedes Albaño, Tina Ebrada, Dr. Ma. Lourdes Chan, Gloria Escaño, Flor Streegan, Nilda Martinez and Cely Chiongbian.
