The KFC Concert
Little did we know that patients who have undergone dialysis and had good response to the treatment look like they are normal again. They look so healthy, strong and full of life, and their countenance – great!
At the Kidney Failure Club’s Dinner-Thanksgiving concert presented by the survivors held at the Grand Convention Center recently, we were so touched with their kind of attitude as they sang and danced to their hearts’ content. As if they were never afflicted with kidney disease. They were so full of life!
As they rendered “Here Today and Gone Tomorrow,” the soft-hearted Dr. Pek Eng Lim stood up and requested the KFC members to repeat the song. With a standing ovation from the audience, the KFC members sang the song for the third time. We saw so many in the audience in tearful sympathy with the survivors. Later, the KFC members sang “Dialysis” in a fast rhythm, where the audience gave a thunderous applause. As the program moved on, songs were rendered by Realtor Herbert Engle Buot, duet by Atty. Jennoh Tequillo and brother Dr. Bimbo Tequillo with Max Surban, a special presentation.
As the affair came to a close, Dr. Ophelia C. Buot, Medical Director of the Asia Renal Care II, gave the closing remarks which elicited a lot of praises from the audience knowing that Dr. Buot has helped hundred of patients extend their lease on life.
The Kidney Failure Club is a family of patients bound by the shared experience of kidney failure. They exist in order to create a means for an honest, humble and brave dialogue among kidney failure patients, their families, and their attending physicians and medical professionals. They exist in order to initiate long lasting friendships and to express a deeply felt love for God and their fellow human beings, and their ever-deepening gratitude for an extended lease on life. They exist to prepare themselves and their fellow human beings for a happy and meaningful eternal repose. They exist as a sign and sacrament of God’s abiding love and presence, of what awaits all human beings at a certain point in their lives, and of the immense unconditional capacities of all human beings to embrace, witness and participate in miracles, no matter their states in life!
