Long-Term Dangers of Marijuana

While you may not feel any of the negative short-term effects while using, the drug could still be affecting your body, increasing the risk of potentially life-threatening medical problems later in life. Some of the medical problems marijuana users may face are:

 Cancer; Damage to lungs and airways; Decreased immune system functioning; Infection and disease;

 Psychological disorders; Damage to the reproductive system; Heart disease; Chronic high blood pressure.

Drug Use During Pregnancy

Pregnant women should never use marijuana or other drugs (unless prescribed by a doctor) during pregnancy. Women who use marijuana during pregnancy are at an increased risk of having a baby with health problems or developmental delays.

Marijuana Dangers Can Begin with First Time Use

Many people will tell you that you can't get hooked on a drug the first time you use it. This is another myth and you can become addicted after using it just once. So when asking yourself, "In what ways can marijuana be dangerous?" consider how you can become addicted physiologically and psychologically almost as soon as you take that first drag.

Physically Addicted to Cannabis

When you are physiologically addicted to cannabis, your body craves the drug. You may feel anxious and physically ill if you don't get your next hit soon. Once you do use again, you will instantly feel a physical relief from it. This is how you know you are physically addicted to marijuana.

Psychological Addiction to Cannabis

Physical and psychological addiction go hand-in-hand. When you begin feeling a drug craving your mind will tell you that you need it. After this initial response, you will be much more motivated to continue using. You believe you need the drug because you can't function without it. You're dependent on it and will do whatever you need to do to get it, which poses many dangers in itself.

While you may not see anything wrong with becoming addicted to a drug, especially if you have an abundance of it available and money to buy it with, it can be a problem once your drug use starts to interfere in other areas of your life.

The Effects Drugs Can Have on Relationships

As you grow more addicted to a drug, such as cannabis, you will push other people out of the way. Your focus will be using and finding your next hit. You'll be drawn to anything that has to do with the drug and that includes others who also abuse drugs In time, you will isolate yourself from everyone you once loved. You will have no one to turn to, and this can cause you great grief and depression. Two impoortant areas of your life that you should consider are your relationships and work.

The Effects of Drugs on Work

In a similar way that drugs can negatively affect relationships, the same holds true for work. Since your focus is on cannabis, you may begin to miss work so that you can use or deal. You may also being to miss work because you are suffering from the short-term effects of cannabis causing you to feel ill and unmotivated.
