Waterfront gives back

CEBU, Philippines - In celebration of World Water Day and Earth Hour this month, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino continues to advance its environmental agenda. Going green for Waterfront has always meant a multi-pronged strategy to save energy and water and to develop cleaner, more environment-friendly processes for the hotel.

In fact, it has made an effort to keep installing new technology that saves on operating costs and is healthy for the environment at the same time. Waterfront is currently using heat pump units to save on fuel cost in generating hot water for guest rooms. The system uses reverse refrigeration in order to generate hot water, and the refrigerant used is an eco-friendly one, R-134A. This system cuts down the hotel’s use of diesel fuel.

The hotel has also installed a 40BHp Logic Heat Vertical Steam Boiler. The device saves on fuel consumption and has zero carbon emissions. As an alternative to diesel fuel, the system uses electricity to convert water to steam. Both projects contributed to substantial savings on fuel cost and reduced Waterfront’s carbon footprint by a significant measure. Satisfied with the results of the project, Waterfront intends to incorporate more green technology into its operations in the near future.

On March 27, 2010, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino joins Earth Hour by switching off its non-essential lights and by encouraging guests to do the same.
