Love, Specs, Magic

CEBU, Philippines - Fashion is about as fickle as the weather. Although we’re constantly stormed with fashion’s hot and not list, it’s safe to say that among the barrage of duds and accessories that have come and gone season upon season, sun glasses are among—if not, the—fashion accessory that’s as constant as a scorching day on the Sahara.

I don’t quite remember sunglass trends to change season upon season most especially that sunglasses are rarely the accessories that a lot of people consider as must-haves. The biggest sunglass trend to perhaps hit the fashion pages were the oversized glasses trend that was heavily popularized by Paris Hilton but which was inspired way, way back by classy former US First Lady and fashion icon, Jackie O.

Since sunglass trends change at a snail’s pace, here’s a quick review of the rare few that have made many of us into sun worshippers all for the sake of fashion.

Wayfarers

Blame sunglass trendsetter Rayban for bringing back the hip, vintage feel back on our faces with the duel-toned wayfarers. Wayfarers are an easy, and a more laid back take on class. Classic wayfarers are even perfect enough to add an extra oomph to the basics or to complete a sexy yet dishevelled look.

Dekada ’70 Thick, Plastic Frames

The 70s witnessed a huge fashion revolution from the discotheque duds that dominated the dance floor and the laidback, I-don’t-care-what-other-people-say threads of the hippies—sunglasses weren’t spared from this fashion revolution.

Generally, the trend for retro glasses is something that’s very easy to keep up with especially if you’re the hip and funky type. Retro specs that come in candilicious frames spell fun which means that these pairs are perfect to dress up mini dresses and other updated retro looks.

Just make sure not to choose retro glasses from decades that are too outdated. Take the cue from Proenza Schouler and Polo Ralph Lauren to really score a look that’s worthy of being dubbed as eye candy.

John Lennon specs

Beatle mania wasn’t all about the music. It was also about the specs. And who wouldn’t be familiar with those round frames and lenses that come in a plethora of colors and gradients? Although an updated look of the John Lennon trend comes in thick colorful frames, these specs are hardly exclusive to summer.

Oversized glasses

Oversized glasses are nothing short of chic which makes them my personal fave. Oversized glasses have the power to up your sophistication level by a hundred points. Do an Audrey Hepburn and wear oversized glasses with a polished and elegant look or lean to a more boheme feel ala Nicole Richie.

Take the cue from Oscar dela Renta and Emporio Armani for a classy take on the socialite look.

Aviators

Aviators are another remnant from things vintage but unlike the wayfarers, the overall styling of the aviators has hardly changed—making it a certified classic.

Aviators will make face shape a huge consideration so make sure to shop around in order for you to bag the perfect pair. There are unisex designs and there are those intended for either of the sexes so when it comes to looking for the perfect pair, patience is the key to bagging that key find.

Specs may perhaps be one of the most neglected of all accessories but believe me, the perfect pair will really work some magic into your overall look.
