This is a project named “BeLieve In the Arts” to help raise funds for the construction of a Performing Arts School and/or a Theater Auditorium.
“BeLieve In the Arts” Project
Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founder of Buddha’s Light International Association Fo Guang Shan (BLIA), including the Chu-un Temple of Cebu, aims at four goals which are to propagate the Dharma (values and teachings) through culture, to nurture talents through education, to benefit society through charity and to purify people’s minds through cultivation.
He had seen the impressive talents of the Cebuano youth in the fields of music and arts as evidenced by the dedication, passion and world-class artistic skills of the team of Siddhartha Musical, which had toured around Philippines and Taiwan for performances. But due to the fact that performing arts in Cebu is regarded as a hobby only, not a profession, and the lack of financial sources to pursue education in music and arts, most of the talented young artists are not able to pursue their artistic crafts. Because of this, Venerable Master Hsing Yun and the BLIA proposed a plan to build a school for the arts, and/or a theatre auditorium to provide scholarship and ground to, not only, enhance the musically/artistically talented but also to shape their character in order to live life with morals, compassion and inner peace.
