On the edge
Bird watching in Alcoy and Olango Island, pedalling up the hills of Busay, kayaking in Aloguinsan, skimboarding in Talisay and Liloan, spelunking in Argao, camping in Balamban, scuba diving in Moalboal, rock climbing in Toledo, hiking in Osmeña Peak, Dalaguete. These all spell ADVENTURE. The great outdoors beckon, so kiss your boring (read: ugly) life bye-bye and experience the natural high.
Kick off those shoes and experience life on the edge, away from your comfort zone to de-stress and enjoy simple joys and outbursts of fun only the outdoors can bring. To complement one’s active lifestyle, an outdoor superstore has found a spot in the recently launched Active Zone in Ayala Center Cebu, the Recreational Outdoor eXchange (ROX), a recreational retail shop that provides for one’s expedition needs.
ROX Ayala is the second installation with the first one in Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City tagged as Southeast Asia’s biggest outdoor superstore. The Cebu baby, designed by Robert Alejandro and architect Leah Bautista (same minds behind the High Street branch), has two levels with a floor area of 500 square meters each and has a soon-to-open outdoor area (800 squaremeters) that will play host to different outdoor sporting events, making it the Active Zone’s flagship store.
“The ROX concept concentrates on making the people appreciate the outdoors, nature and promote health and wellness, as well,” said ROX Sales & Marketing AVP Ruby Palma. The superstore carries more than 100 established top-of-the-line international brands such as The North Face, Columbia Sportswear, Eagle Creek, High Sierra, Life is Good, Mountain Hardwear, Phiten, Giant Bikes, Sea to Summit, Salomon, among others, as well as local/homegrown brands like Lagalag, BloodRed and Habagat. Everything from travel (backpacking, weekend getaways) to hardcore sports (cycling, trail running, kayaking, wakeboarding), recreation (rock climbing, camping, surfing) to wellness & nature tripping (yoga, birdwatching, trekking, hiking) – ROX got it covered.
“The store does not mainly focus on providing outdoor essentials but will soon educate our shoppers and interested clients by giving talks with regards to the basics of mountaineering, survival tips, caring for the environment among others, as well as exhibits and workshops. ROX Cebu, like in Taguig, will also offer adventure tours to jumpstart one’s outdoor adventure. Interested groups may also approach the ROX desk soon to book a destination,” Palma concluded.
So, shop for the essentials and take note: pack light!
