Sinulog 2010: 30 Years of Style

To recall, Sinulog started in 1980 with only a few contingents; nonetheless, the Cebuano resolve has never waned. Thirty years after, Sinulog evolved into a globally much anticipated festivity that, since its early years, centered on the veneration of the Child Jesus, the Sto. Niño.

Fast forward to Sinulog 2010, which showcased the best of what Cebu has to offer in terms of fashion, music and dance. This year showcased Cebu as having the best of both worlds — a bustling sophisticated metropolis and an island paradise that beckons local and foreign tourists alike to experience Cebu and savor its endless possibilities. In terms of style, what could be more fitting than the featured collections of designers Edwin Ao, Protacio, Cary Santiago and Philip Rodriguez with accessories by OroTime Italian Trend Jewelry to grace the humongous grand stage of Sinulog 2010 as conceptualized by Engr. Junjet Primor.

Set amidst a replica of the facade of the Basilica del Sto. Nino, 30 models from M.A.C.>Models Association of Cebu sashayed to show what Cebu is all about in resort collections of Edwin Ao, Protacio and Philip Rodriguez. Featured were easy and breezy dresses stamped with signature Ao futurism that was further highlighted with Protacio’s mastery in draping and the crisp clean feel of Rodriguez’ men’s linen shirts and drawstring trousers. This was followed shortly by the haute couture collection of Cary Santiago that featured an imaginary world that’s ferocious and precious (his famed flora and fauna line), not to mention ferociously influential. With its relentless tribal overtones, the Cary Santiago collection was particularly in tune with the moment. The exquisite Barong Filipiino by Philip Rodriguez revealed our rich cultural heritage that became the collections’ leitmotif.
