CEBU, Philippines - When you want to have some good old friends with you and enjoy your kind of music and a bottle of beer after a long day at work, there is a place that I strongly recommend - a place where you can let your hair down, sit comfortably and listen to good music.
Check out KUBAGLI at the Treehouse in Don Ramon Aboitiz Street beside Saint Theresa’s College.
“KUBAGLI” derived from the words “Kuha’g bag uli” (get your bag and head home) is a chill out bar where you don’t have to worry about dress codes. Having a good time in this place is definitely priceless.
The night before I left for Canada, a very good friend of mine invited me for some drinks in the place which he described as the perfect spot for “hellos“, “goodbyes” and “see you laters.“ Saul Rhys Roberts, my former colleague who is now working in Parklane Hotel as an IT Manager, is also the proprietor of KUBAGLI, together with his good old drinking buddies LA Tingzon (Chef in Kubagli), Irene Luardo (Kubagli Finance Guru) and Jhun Ycong (The Bartender). One night, they went on their regular drinking session and came up with the idea of putting up a bbq station. It eventually evolved into having a place where good food, perfect drinks and exquisite ambiance come together in a tree house, that is how KUBAGLI came about.
“KUBAGLI started as an inside joke among us then later on realizing that this can be a nice name for the bar, Kuhag Bag Uli” Saul narrated.
Ever Villapana, Marco Polo’s graphics genius joined in for drinks and old school jokes with us (LA, Jhun, Irene and Saul), reminiscing the good times all of us had over these past years and revealing surprising secrets which made the night more interesting and fun.
True enough, Saul was right, indeed, Kubagli was one place where you can start off your night with a warm hello, say a little of your goodbyes (since that was my despedida party) and say “see you later” cause you would definitely want to be back in that tree house if not everyday, every time you want to breathe and get out from the toxic environment at work.
And oh, did I tell you they are now serving lunch? Yes, they are!
Here are some of the pictures that night at KUBAGLI to give you a feel of what the place is all about.
