City Council commends Ayala Center Cebu's Greenology Campaign
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council recently commended Ayala Center Cebu’s Greenology Campaign in a resolution passed by the body.
“Ayala Center Cebu heeded the world’s call for sustainability by launching the Greenology Campaign last September 2009,” the resolution stated.
The body commended the mall’s campaign for being a success in making the public aware of the present conditions of the environment, and becoming “an eye opener for some on how to take care of our ecosystem.”
The Greenology Campaign, launched through a press briefing last September 2, was a month-long celebration of a series of earth-friendly events. This included the launching of the Eco-bag designed by the country’s top fashion designers; Eco-Art – a competition in art expression and innovation to promote awareness to adopt greener habits and the importance of waste reduction and recycling; and the Green Line which was organized to create design clothes and accessories made of eco-friendly materials.
To increase environmental awareness and involvement, Ayala Center Cebu also held Eco-Dash: A Run for Mother Earth, around the Cebu Business Park. Proceeds of the run were donated to the Kan-Irag Nature Park Foundation.
The month culminated with a Green Sale which was anchored on a No Plastic Bag Promo. Shoppers were encouraged to bring re-usable bags for their shopping and surrender their plastic bags for extra incentives. The plastic bags collected were also donated to Barangay Luz for their recycling projects.
The Greenology Campaign is just one of the many efforts Ayala has made through the years to be eco-friendly. Cebu Holdings Inc. (CHI), developer of Ayala Center Cebu, pushes its sustainability efforts to the forefront this year with its theme, Catalyzing Change: Responding to the Challenges of a Changing Environment. CHI has synchronized its efforts to promote sustainable initiatives among its employees, in the development and management of its projects, and in dealing with its partner organizations.
