A business administration graduate from St. Theresa’s College, Anna Galicia has been in the hotel industry for 6 years now. “I have worked in 5-star hotels here in the Philippines and in the United States in different capacities from Front Office to Sales and even cross-trained at the Hilton Cebu’s Pastry Kitchen.”
Anna is currently the Marketing and Communications Manager at the Microtel Grand Resorts Mactan. “As the ‘voice’ of the resort, I go out and promote it via tri-media, as well as other unconventional ways such as blogging. Apart from that, I help with sales calls to let the public know that this resort is more than just your ordinary place to stay. Meeting people is also an icing on the cake.” Having been employed at the resort for 6 months now, Anna admits that it has been such a great ride. “Our team, who share the same sentiments as mine, is very supportive of one another, which truly helps a lot.”
More importantly, having a sense of responsibility and hard work in every aspect, “being in marketing gives you the task to ‘pull’ people ensuring that the resort’s occupancy rate is above par. Even better if it is 100% on most days.”
As promos are one of Anna’s responsibilities along with media relations, she gets to work hand-in-hand with both the sales and general manager. “I write a lot of press releases for the resort. Events that are fast approaching are for the 24th of December – a set dinner at P395 net per person, 25th of December – Brunch buffet at P495++ per person and for New Year’s Eve, we will have something unconventional and relatively novel with our Lantern Release, in lieu of fireworks to illuminate the sky at the beachfront on the midnight of the 31st of December. This will be an event aimed at families, to make a wish as a lantern is released. Thai lanterns cost P150 each. A dinner buffet is also available at P595++ per person and a drink-all-you-can from 10PM to 1AM at P550++. Microtel Mactan is also cooking up something for the Sinulog Season, a ‘Sinulog Package’ but more details on this soon. So look out for it.”
Anna makes it clear that she would not try to sell/market something if it were a product she isn’t dedicated to. “Before I joined Microtel Mactan, I came over to this resort to meet up with my cousins from Canada who were checked in at that time and I have to admit that I was quite impressed by the hotel’s ambience. Plus, the food cooked up by nearby Abaca’s chef is such a gastronomic delight with reasonable prices that can be shared between 2-3 people! You can also have cocktails at the Beach Bar along with some chill-out music. It was exciting when I knew that they had an opening for the Marketing Manager position. I knew instantly that it wouldn’t be too difficult to convince people to come over to stay, as this isn’t just your average resort. The vibe overall is cool and relaxing. The staff always put their best foot forward, always being a step ahead in anticipating the guests’ needs.”
As hospitality plays a big role in this industry, Anna is truly inspired with work, well done!
