Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints installs statue of Angel Moroni

-

CEBU, Philippines - November 5 was a memorable day for the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as it was the day that the statue of Angel Moroni (Mo-rone-eye) was installed at the highest spire of their Cebu Philippines Temple in Lahug.

Keith R. Edwards, the Philippines Area President, said the installation of the 3.25-meter statue of Angel Moroni, which is made of fiberglass and is covered by a layer of gold leaf, indicates that the temple is nearing completion.

The statue of the Angel Moroni is a feature in all Latter-day Saint temples as it symbolizes the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world.

“The installation of the statue of Angel Moroni represents that the angel has flown and has restored the gospel. It’s a symbol of who we are, that there is a resurrection, a life after death,” Elder Edwards said.

The Cebu Philippines Temple is set for completion by May or June next year. The temple in Lahug is the second temple of the LDS here in the Philippines. – Quennie S. Bronce
