CEBU, Philippines - October is rosary month. The Catholic Church, in response to Mama Mary’s message, has encouraged everyone to continuously pray the Rosary for conversion of sinners and world peace. Peace seems to be the most elusive goal of the world since there has never been real peace everywhere.
Please don’t get me wrong. This article doesn’t mean to fire up an argument in defense of one’s religion. I just want to share my personal experience and feelings about the Holy Rosary.

It was not long ago when I realized the real meaning of the Holy Rosary. It is a prayer offered to God through the intercession of Mary, the mother of Jesus. It actually tells about her life and the life of her son, Jesus Christ. Praying the Rosary could make one humble because it brings to mind the things that Jesus went through for our sake. He is the absolute manifestation of an unconditional love by somebody who loves us like no other.
The Holy Rosary, unlike what other religions say, is a complete prayer. It gives praises to Father God, with prayers of repentance, adoration, intercession, supplication, and petition. The Rosary does not center on Mary alone. It tells the real story of Mary’s being mother not only to Jesus but also to all of God’s people and how she instrumentally became an icon of humility and the light of the family. No woman has ever experienced the pains and sorrows she had. It also relives the story of Jesus and how He truly loves us. The Holy Rosary is about building a personal relationship with God through Jesus and Mary.
Every bead of the Rosary has its significance about the salvation of every soul. It has the power to renew life and activate faith. But living the Rosary needs a lot of faith and determination. We may not live perfectly righteous lives, but we can be real witnesses of Christ by being good and fair to people we meet each day.
Praying the Rosary comforts people. It comforted me when I went through the most challenging times in my life. The 59 beads had helped President Cory Aquino find real peace when she was fighting colon cancer. The same Rosary gave Mother Theresa tons of strength in carrying out her Missionaries of Charity.
The rosary is a vitamin that, when taken regularly, could detoxify the soul. It does not guarantee a candidacy of sainthood, but at least, it will give us the chance to experience real Christian life. The rosary is a summary of what the Bible teaches about Jesus’ life and mission.
Like me, I hope you too will take time to try discovering the effects of praying the rosary. It only takes a maximum of 20 minutes but the benefits are immeasurable. Each of the 59 beads of the rosary can help thousands of souls find peace. If this is the only way we can help, why don’t we spend time to pray the Rosary? Salvation is free. We only need to discover it and cultivate every opportunity God has given us. One way of working it out is through the Rosary. October is Rosary month. Let’s celebrate. Let’s pray the Rosary and see the difference.
