August Away

CEBU, Philippines - I might have been away for the most part but distance was never a reason to miss out on the must-where-to-be events for this very significant month. If you were following my previous article, I now have clones! (Really, that’s just me wishing to have as much mini-mes to cover all of the scenes.) Thus, I still have firsthand and up-to-date details on the goings-on, even from across the Pacific.

August commenced with what was dubbed to be the wedding of the year as the Duke and a Princess tied the knot in a solemn ceremony at the Cebu Cathedral. According to event coordinator, Stanz Catalan: “Tis gonna be the day when the entire country comes to Cebu to party”—and very much indeed. Young mayor of Liloan Vincent ‘Duke’ Frasco and his lovely wife Christina Garcia Codilla, daughter of Cebu governor Gwen Garcia, treated guests (which included President GMA and former Pres. Erap Estrada) to a lavish dinner at the CICC for the reception. Best wishes to the new couple!

By mid-month, that’s when things started to get crazy (but in a good way)! Before leaving the country to celebrate a significant life event, I already had the standing invitation for Make Your Own Havaianas and this to me is the mother of all events: Formo’s 4th! It was a difficult decision, but obviously who could resist celebrating your 35th birthday in New York and Las Vegas?

Thanks to my clones, who reported Havaianas’ flip-floppin’ event was another roaring success as fans of the brand stomped their way to SM City’s Northwing to create and jazz up their own pair. I certainly did mine. Then Formo’s four-by-four-by-four anniversary was just as I pictured it to be. The city’s premier bar and lounge was in all fours treating loyal patrons to a four-day party with a four-hour drink-and-eat-all-you-can. Four mojito flavors were also introduced to the gulping public. Now, that certainly feels like home to me. Cheers and more power!
