The age of good music at Treff
CEBU, Philippines – An unplanned evening holds more surprises than one that has been on the drawing board for days.
Last July 3, after covering the opening of Cebu: People, Faces and Places exhibit in Banilad Town Center, I was drawn to Treff, Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino’s chill out place, after Maebelle Varon, the hotel’s marketing and communications manager, sent me an SMS invitation to the launching of their club’s new offering.
Dubbed Rewind, every Friday at Treff, bar hoppers are treated to a montage of musical masterpieces from the 70s, 80s and 90s courtesy of DJ Bong Zoo. The party is made more special with party lights, totally transporting you to an era where good music equates to good company sans loud sounds equated to noise.
A chill out place, where bar goers could either start or cap their night listening to good music, watching beautiful people, and having meaningful conversation while lounging on the super comfortable couches and glass chairs while sipping on your favorite cocktail mixed by the hotel’s extraordinary bartenders, or munching on gourmet finger foods concocted by extraordinary chefs.
The place itself is ultramodern: glass walls and ceiling, minimalist decors and furnishings, subdued lightings, and on special occasions, blazing laser lights that seem to broadcast the happening inside.
Treff opened August of 2007 and since then, its cool ambience has attracted well-known personalities in Cebu to frequent the place – from young politicians to fashion designers, young professionals to businessmen.
An extra treat is the happy hour where you get to enjoy the drinks at 50 percent less the cover price. On Mondays, ladies get complimentary Martini. And everyday, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., the speakers blare house music that would either drive you to dance or just elicit some weird head and foot movements.
The first night of Treff Rewind was quite intimate, and I was happy to have been a part of it.
