Benhur's Birthday Bash
Congressman Benhur Salimbangon’s birthday was June 3, but because that day was the most crucial day regarding the ConAss debate in Congress with Deputy Raul del Mar presiding, he therefore couldn’t come home on that day.
Thus, Saturday of that week, Carlos and Mariquita Yeung tendered a big birthday dinner bash for big brother Benhur at their Villa. Being the representative of the 4th district, most of those who attended were his leaders – mayors, vice mayors, councilors, barangay captains, in other words, his constituents from the 4th district. Also present were Deputy Speaker Raul del Mar and his congressional candidate daughter Cutie, Rep. Nerissa Soon Ruiz and Vice Mayor Michael Rama.
Doubly euphoric was Benhur since a week before that day, the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal dismissed the election protest of his opponent and affirmed the proclamation of Rep. Benhur as the duly elected representative of the fourth district.
During the dinner gathering, Benhur made an adlib that before the end of this year, practically all his projects in his district might be in the final stages of completion. Of course, he got a standing ovation by his constituents, and members of his family were just smiling approvingly.
As the short program was about to end, the song “Benhur’s Impossible Dream” was sung, and here’s an excerpt: “This is his quest, to follow the star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far, to fight for the right without question or pause; To be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause; And he knows he will always be true to his glorious quest, then his heart will lie peaceful and calm. When his ‘District’s the Best!’”
Anyway, the song that Benjie Diola composed and re-arranged was sang by all the guests (with their copies on hand) and it was very touching and beautiful too! More power to you, Ben!
