CEBU, Philippines - Let's admit it, we felt a little shortchanged of summer due to the freaky weather that seem to spread all over the island. But hey, the events around town were sunshine enough for me.
While everyone was locked on the tube early on the first Sunday of the month to watch the so-called boxing fight of the century, I was still in bed snoring off my hangover from the previous night's Disco Saturday Hybrid at Alejandro's. As usual, only the bold and beautiful braved the erratic conditions just to enjoy the Labor Day weekend with good music and a whole lot of dancing. A week later, I found myself in the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino for a more subdued yet significant gathering. The Arctic Hall turned elegant as young lass Darling Ongluico welcomed womanhood in her Egyptian Princess-themed debut celebration. No less than the stunning Ana Mariz Igpit and always bubbly Orly Cajegas hosted the occasion.
Then in addition to its incomparable weekend line up of renowned DJs and world class club music, Vudu Lounge perks up weekday clubbing with daily concept events that will certainly entice most especially after a hard day's work! Deja Vudu Thurdays kicks it back to basics with a live band dishing out favorites of the 80s and 90s. A fan of the roaring decades, I was in the frontline jamming with UK Lily during the launch. Also making it a regular on Tuesdays is Vudueoke-grab the mic!
Towards mid-month, the rains kept on and the heat and humidity surged. But hey, nothing could stop PLDT's MyDSL Broadband Blowout which kicked off with a media cocktail soiree at Formo Lounge then later progressed to Vudu's all-night dance party. Manila DJ Marlon and top lady jock Marie Garcia were on the spin to provide world-class dance music. Models cum VJs Steph Henares and Gino dela Peña flew in from the Capital to cover the big event.
Finally, on an un-rainy Friday evening, the glam and fabulous gathered at Formo for a shindig that only Havaianas can pull off. It was all white party for the Urban Beach Party-an appreciation for the flip-flop brand's loyal patrons and friends. Giving the celebration a Brazilian flavor were the members of the Asia Pacific Capoeira Association headed by Champion Jensen Go Chow with two capoeira masters from Rio de Janeiro who showed moves of the ancient art. Tribo Manila kept the energy to a summit with their own brand of music while guests partied with non-stop cocktails and sumptuous hors d’ oeuvres developed by Chef Lor Torres and Kristine Kokseng. And the best part of the event was the giveaways--limited edition flip-floats! Of course, the female power tandem of A.L. Amizade Marketing, Aimil Sarmiento and Leanne Florendo, were present to personally give thanks to all Havaianas supporters. More power!
