30 Reasons to Love The Philippines

- Kristalle Garcia-Kekert -

CEBU, Philippines – A country that more than deserves to be a popular tourist destination, from top to bottom (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao), I always find beauty in the Philippines and here’s why:

1. Despite some rainy days, the Philippines has hot weather all year round. I’d dread the fact of having to put on layers of thick clothes for most months of the year.

2. The sea, the crowded or isolated beaches, the world-class marine life and the many islands to choose from, take your pick! It makes it even more complete with the traditional Philippine banca used for island hopping and fishing.

3. Fresh and inexpensive tropical and exotic fruits. Whichever way you choose to eat it, its distinct taste cannot be compared to anything else.

4. Most locals understand English, making it simpler for foreign tourists to get by. You might set foot in the littlest town, but locals would still be able to direct you with the use of the English language and a smile added to it.

5. Its remarkable history. Jose Rizal’s written works never fail to fascinate me.

6. Traditional dances, costumes and fiestas combined with a colorful atmosphere.

7. The stunning landscapes of the Banaue rice terraces, also named as the eighth wonder of the world. That says it all.

8. Baguio. It isn’t hard to see why it is referred to as the “summer capital” of the Philippines. The 6-hour drive out of Manila is absolutely well worth the time!

9. The town of Sagada made popular with the town’s hanging coffins, well-kept caves and comfortable bed and breakfasts venues.

10. Fresh seafood that doesn’t blow your budget

11. Up to date each time with the latest fashions, designs and gadgets.

12. Fantastic street snacks such as fish balls, “dirty” ice cream and cotton candy.

13. Old and well-preserved churches you will find in every city or town in the country.

14. Jeepneys! Where in the world would you find these funky, open-air transports that take you from point A to B? Job done.

15. Nipa huts. Truly makes it one of the country’s symbols.

16. A drive up to the mountains of Cebu takes only minutes. The view of the lit up city is also a plus! I could spend a lot of time enjoying a scene that never bores me.

17. Bohol. Where else would you find these adorable curled up little tarsiers!

18. Barbequed chicken and pork served with puso found around the corner from where you are.

19. My absolute favorite Philippine “delicacies” – sapin-sapin, peanut broas and Chippy! There’s just nothing else like it!

20. Huge choices in water sports and many excellent dive spots – Moalboal in particular for its diversity and diving conditions.

21. Local vinegar made from coconut.

22. Loving the charm of a kalesa ride.

23. Malapascua, a picturesque underrated island located on top of Cebu mainland.

24. Our fast food pride, Jollibee!

25. Philippine Airlines for quality service

26. Kawasan Falls for its several pools on several different levels

27. San Miguel Beer and Tanduay Rum

28. Home to international star Lea Salonga and boxer Manny Pacquiao

29. Huge range of the sweet smelling and refreshing Johnson’s Baby Cologne

30. Best of all, there are so many happy people who know how to enjoy life to the fullest!
