Tex celebrates 75!

CEBU CAROUSEL - Joe C. Recio -

CEBU, Philippines – Pontico “Tex” Fortuna recently celebrated his 75th birthday at the Salon de España, Casino Español de Cebu.

Tex’ four children, Andre Patrick who came all the way from Texas with his family, VM Carlo Pontico, Dexter Paul, and Beatrice Louella Gay F. Albotra went out of their way to prove to their father that they are not only good in speeches but are also excellent in dancing and playing the piano. They provided entertainment for the affair, an indication of their love for the celebrator. They said it was only a one-week training of tango and salsa for them to remember the figures. Vice Mayor Carlo played the piano, as well as Cirilita and grandson Carl Christopher.

Among Tex’ well-wishers were Usec Lito Ruiz with wife Congresswoman Nerissa Soon-Ruiz, former mayors Pedong and Teddy Ouano with charming wife Linda, Mandaue Sangguniang Panlungsod members Vic Biano, Diosdado Suico, Noeleen Borbajo with former Councilor husband Allan, Emil Rosal, Editha Cabahug with former Councilor, husband Raul, Alfonso Albano Jr, Jimmy Lumapas, Beethoven Andaya, JP Ceniza, KB Gian Gobalane, former Vice Mayor of Consolacion Teresa Alegado with husband Nilo, former Councilor Rosita Benabaye, former Councilor Alfonso Albano Sr., and former Councilor Noel Soon.

It was truly a birthday celebration worth remembering. As Tex said, that was his first and last time to hold a grand celebration for his birthday since he usually celebrates his birthday with a Mass and by lighting a candle, as a way of thanking the Lord for an extended year of good life.
