Buzybuddies Dance Crew

- Dax Barlaan -

Buzybuddies Dance Crew was formed by accident in the summer of 1999 when the group’smanager, Boyet “Dada” Sasuman, came back to town while waiting for the final approval of his Japanese visa.

Boyet was based in Manila as a TV show dancer.

Wilcy Ybanez, one of the pionering Buzybuddies Dance Crew member, ignited the idea of forming a dance group to which Boyet agreed without second thoughts.

“It was really my passion to have a dance group here in Cebu. A year after, I also formed an all-male group - Buzybuddies E-males”, said Mr. Sasuman. “All in all, I had more than thirty power dancers. We danced in local TV shows in GMA’s Singgit Cebu and Oi! before and ABS-CBN’s SNG. We performed in hotels, bars, beach resorts; guested in concerts, product launchings, convention and out of-town invitations. I also formed a show band before where my dancers were also the vocalists. I called the group Koozi Band but it was short-lived here because they all had to fly to Japan. I was proud to be instrumental for their success, too”, he said.

The group’s main forte is modern jazz with a dash of hip-hop blends. They also perform contemporary, local and foreign folk dances but they thrive on modern popular dance.

“I’m very strict with my dancers during rehearsals. I’d like to keep our professional and personal relationships separate. We enjoy each other’s company through thick and thin. I think that’s the reason why we lasted this long”, confirms Sasuman.
