Marco Polo Plaza supports Earth Hour 2009
CEBU, Philippines – The Marco Polo Plaza joins the international community in making a unified statement about the universal concern about the environment. On March 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, the Marco Polo Plaza joins millions of households, commercial and industrial establishments as well as cities and towns across the world, in switching off lights for 60 minutes – aptly named as EARTH HOUR, in support of the global call for action on global warming and climate change.
Earth Hour 2009, led by global conservation organization, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), is expected to be the largest mass participation in the world, sending out the message that we need a commitment to actions that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions to avert widespread disastrous impacts on the planet.
In the Philippines, WWF is collaborating with the Department of Energy, The Army, and the SWITCH Movement for the campaign, aiming for the participation of at least 10 million Filipinos.
To be one in this global event, the Marco Polo Plaza, will encourage hotel guests to turn off their room lights from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm as a vote for Earth. Lights will be dimmed to make way for romantic candlelight dinners in its four distinctive outlets: BLU Bar & Grill, El Viento Restaurant & Pool Bar, Lobby Lounge and Cafe Marco, featuring a special “Earth Hour” menu of eco-friendly and very healthy selections composed of slow-cooked meat and fish, braised dishes, raw seafood and fresh fruit and vegetables. Moreover, Marco Polo Plaza is also promoting the use of reusable shopping bags, also available for sale at its Lobby Shop from March 28 to April 3.
